Quick and Tasty Bhel Puri

Crunchy bhel puri recipe with puffed rice, chutneys & spices! Easy Mumbai street food snack, perfect for parties or quick bites. Vegan, tangy chaat.

 Bhel Puri

The crunchy, zesty and infinite, is the ultimate crowd pleaser. This classic Mumbai chat layers puffed rice with crispy sev, fresh vegetables and sweet and spicy chutneys for taste explosion in each bite. Prepared in15 minutes, it is perfect for breakfast, snack or lazy afternoon.  

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of puffed rice (Murmura)  
  • 1 cup of thin sev (crispy gram flour noodles)  
  • 1 medium boiled potato, peeled and diced  
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion  
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped tomato  
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander chopped  
  • 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts  
  • 10-12 crushed papaya (optional for additional crunch)  
  • 2 tablespoons tangy tamarind chutney
  • 2 tablespoons fresh green chutney
  • 1 teaspoon raw mango chutney
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala   
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder  
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder  
  • Salt, to taste  
  • 1/2 lemon juice

Method:

  1. Take a large mixing bowl, combine puffed rice and sev. Keep a small handful of sev for the garnish on the side.  
  2. Now, add  diced potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peanuts and crushed papadi.  
  3. Add tamarind, green, and raw mango chutney in the bhel puri.  
  4. In bhel puri add chaat masala, cumin powder, red chilli powder and salt and mix it properly.  
  5. Add Squeeze lemon juice and mix everything evenly.
  6. Transfer the bhel puri to plates and serve immediately.  

   Tips and Variations:

  • For a nutty taste, swap the peanuts for roasted cashew nuts or any nuts.  
  • Increase heat with chopped green chilli or garlic sauce.  
  • Replace the puffed rice with rice crisp  for the texture game.  

 Serving instructions:

  • Use small bowls, paper cones for serving. Pair it with chai or jal jeera.
