
Bisi Bele Bhat is hot lentil rice from Karnataka, is a healthy, fragrant dish . This one-pot combines rice, toor dal , tamarind, and a unique spice combination referred to as Bisi Bele Bhat . It’s comfort food at its best- tangy, spicy, and soul-soothing.

Method:
- Cook Rice & Dal:
- First wash rice and dal. Then cook them together in pressure cooker until soft.
- Prepare Tamarind Extract:
- Extract pulp from the soaked tamarind.
- Cook Vegetable:
- Add ghee in a pan and sauté onions . After the onions are fried, add tomatoes and vegetables and cook until soft.
- Add Spices:
- Add Bisi Bele Bhat masala, tamarind , jaggery, and salt. Simmer till flavors mix together.
- Combine:
- Add cooked rice and dal mixture. Mix ,add water if needed for consistency.
- Temper:
- In a small pan, heat ghee, add mustard , cumin, red chilies, and curry leaves. Pour over the rice aggregate.
- Serve Hot:
- Add fried cashews or coriander leaves. Best loved with papad or raita.
