French Toast with Berry Compote
This classic recipe with Hot custardy pieces of golden French toast with juicy berries compote . The bread soaks an aromatic vanilla-cinnamon custard, then the crispy edges cooked in butter. The compote focuses the sweetness of fruits with sufficient tang to balance each bite. It is a simple, a little luxurious and exactly the kind of plate that feels like a slow rider like a small celebration.

Components:

For French Toast:

  • 4 pieces of bread of your choice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

For Berry Compote:

  • 1.5 cup mixed berries - blueberries, raspberries, strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or vanilla extract

For Decoration:

  • Sugar Powder
  • Maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the berry compote
    • Take a small saucepan, heat it on medium heat. Add the berries, sugar and lemon juice in it . Stir and simmer for 8-10 minutes until the berries are softened and the mixture is slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set to side.
  2. Make custard
    • In a shallow bowl, whisk with eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar and salt .
  3. Soak the bread
    • Dip each piece of bread into the custard mixture, let it soak for 10-15 seconds per side.
  4.  Cooking French Toast
    • Take a skillet and heat it over medium heat .Add some butter after its heated. Now, cook both sides of bread for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Assemble and serve
    • To assemble, Place the French toast on a plate , add spoonful of hot berry compote over it, dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup .

Tips:

  • Selection of bread: For best texture and taste, Brioche or Challah is the best choice.
  • You can make it dairy free and vegan by using almond milk and coconut oil .
