
Chili paneer momos is an Indo-Chinese snack, a recipe with a twist . Soft, steamed dumplings in spicy paneer and tangy chili sauce, making it for an indispensable appetizer or party treat.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 3/4 cup of warm water (adjust as needed)
For Paneer filling:
- 250 grams of paneer
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small capsicum, finely dice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch of ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons spring onion greens, chopped
- 1 tablespoon corn flour
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
For Chili Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 inch of ginger
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 2 tablespoons red chilli sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons spring onion greens for decoration
Instructions:
- Take a bowl, mix flour, salt, oil and warm water to make a smooth, nonstick dough. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.
- Now, take a pan and heat 1 tablespoon oil . Fry garlic, ginger, chilli and onion until aromatic. Add the capsicum and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in paneer , soy sauce, pepper, salt and corn flour. Mix everything together. Remove from the heat and let it cool.
- Divide the dough into 16 equal balls. Turn everything into a thin circle (3 inches diameter). Place 1 tablespoon filling in the center, edge to seal.
- Steam Momos in the greased steamer basket for 10-12 minutes.
- To make the sauce, heat the remaining oil. Add garlic, ginger and onion until light brown. Mix in ketchup, chilli sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and seasonings. Cook until it is slightly thickened.
- Garnish with spring onion greens.
Tips and Variety:
- Before dicing, soak the paneer in warm salted water for 10 minutes to soften .
- For extra crunch and color, add finely chopped carrots or cabbage .
- For gluten alternatives, use rice flour wrappers.
- Bake or panfry momos for a crisp version.
