
Bal Mithai is a very famous sweet from Kumaon vicinity of Uttarakhand. It is prepared with khoya and coated with tiny white sugar balls. Locals called it "chocolate of the hills". It is dark brown in color and decorated with white sugar beads.
Ingredients:
- 2 kg khoya
- 4 tbsp ghee
- 500 g sugar
- 1 litre water
- Sugar balls (for coating)
Method:
- Roast the khoya
- In a pan melt the Ghee on low flame.
- In meted ghee add the khoya and stir it till the time it becomes caramelizes and turns a rich brown shade.
- Preparation of sugar syrup
- Take 250 gm of sugar and 1 litter of water and dissolve the sugar.
- Now boil the syrup.
- Combine syrup and khoya
- Add the sugar syrup and remaining sugar to the browned khoya mixture.
- Mix them well all together until you get thickness into a fudge-like consistency.
- Shape the mithai
- Transfer the combination onto a greased tray.
- Spread lightly and allow it to cool .
- Cut into square or rectangle pieces .
- Coat with sugar balls
- Roll each piece in sugar balls till fully lined.
- Let them set for some hours before than serving.
Serving Suggestions:
- You can serve Bal Mithai in festival like Diwali or Holi.
- Take it with a cup of masala chai s evening snack.
- Store it in an airtight container to use it for several days.
