- Roasting the dry items:
- Take a pan and dry roast the chana dal until it is lightly golden brown.
- In a separate pan, toast the grated coconut until it is aromatic.
- Roast dried red chilli and cumin seeds until they release their aroma. If using dried garlic, roast it with chilli.
- Grind:
- Once all the ingredients have cooled, grind them with asafoetida and salt until you receive your desired consistency - coarse or fine.
