Indian Cold Beverages

Indian culinary heritage is not only about rich food but also a variety of traditional drinks from hot to cold, Different drinks are served on different occasions Whether Aam panna, a cooling summer drink made from raw mangoes which helps in hot summers to cool rose scented lassi. Jal jeera is also a refreshing summer drink mainly made from lemons and cumin powder. Thandai is a spiced drink made from nuts like Kaju, Badam and spices like saunf and cardamom especially consumed in festivals like Holi.

1. Aam Panna (Raw Mango drink)  

 Ingredients:  

  •  Raw mangoes: 2 medium sized  
  •  Sugar: 1/2 cup   
  •  Black salt: half of teaspoon  
  • Cumin powder (Roasted): 1 teaspoon  
  •  Mint leaves: A handful  
  •  Water: four cups  

 Method:  

  1. Boil the raw mangoes until soft. Peel and extract the pulp.  
  2. Now, take the boiled mango pulp with sugar, black salt, roasted cumin powder, mint leaves and mix together.  
  3. Add water and blend properly. The drink is ready to be served chilled.

 2. Masala Chaas (Spiced Buttermilk)  

 Ingredients:  

  •  Dahi: 1 cup  
  •  Water: 2 cups  
  •  Black salt: half of teaspoon  
  •  Cumin powder (Roasted): half teaspoon  
  •  Green chili: 1 (optional, finely chopped)  
  •  Fresh coriander leaves: A handful  

 Method:  

  1. Whisk yogurt and water until easy.  
  2. Put black salt, cumin powder, green chili, and coriander leaves.  
  3. Serve it chilled in tall glasses.

3. Jal Jeera  

 Ingredients:  

  •  Imli pulp (Tamarind): 2 tablespoons  
  • Cumin powder roasted: 1 teaspoon  
  •  Black salt: half teaspoon  
  •  Mint leaves: A handful  
  •  Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon  
  •  Water: 4 cups  

 Method:  

  1. First combine Imli pulp, roasted cumin powder, black salt, mint leaves, lemon juice and blend it together.
  2. Add water and blend nicely. Put it in refrigerator to serve it chilled. 

 4.Thandai Drink   

 Thandai drink is mainly consumed in Holi festival with sweets like gujiya.

Ingredients:  

  • Milk: four cups  
  • (Badam) Almonds: 10 (soaked and peeled)  
  • (Kaju) Cashews: 10  
  • (Saunf)Fennel seeds: 1 teaspoon  
  • (Green elaichi) Cardamom powder: half teaspoon  
  • Sugar: half cup  
  • Saffron: A pinch  

 Method:  

  1. Take all dry end result like almonds, cashews and spices like fennel seeds, and cardamom powder and mix them right into a thick and clean paste. 
  2. Now, blend the blended aggregate with milk, sugar, and saffron strands. 
  3. Chill within the fridge and serve chilled.

 5. Rose Lassi  

  •  Ingredients:  
  •  Yogurt or Dahi: 1 cup  
  •  Water: 1/2 cup  
  •  Rose syrup: 2 tablespoons  
  •  Sugar: 1 tablespoon (optionally available)  
  •  Ice cubes: A few  

 Method:  

  1. Put together yogurt or Dahi , water, rose syrup, and sugar in mixer and blend it. 
  2. Pour into glasses and garnish with rose petals. Serve chilled.
