Mughlai Moong Dal
Mughlai Moong Dal is a dal with a royal twist. Its perfect dal for parties and celebrations. It is a creamy dal dish made using cashew paste and cream added for extra taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup split yellow moong dal
  • 2 tbsp. ghee
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 medium tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 2 tbsp. yogurt
  • Salt as per taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp. fried onions

Method:

  1. Cook the dal:
    • Wash moong dal properly. Soak it in water for around 30 minutes .
    • Boil soaked dal along with turmeric and salt for one whistle. Mash it lightly .
  2. Prepare the tempering:
    • Now to prepare dal, take a pan. Heat ghee in it and add cumin seeds. 
    • Once they start cracking , add onions and sauté till golden.
  3. Fragrant:
    • For best of the best fragrant take ginger and garlic past with chilly and cook it.
  4. Build the base:
    • In cooked onion add tomato puree, dhania powder, red chili powder, and salt and cook it till it release oil.
  5. Royal richness:
    • Mix in yogurt and cream or cashew paste. Stir nicely for a silky Mughlai gravy.
  6. Combine:
    • Take boiled dal and mix it with masalas. After mixing dal and masalas cook it on low flame for 5-7 minutes. To manage the consistency add water if required.
  7. Finish:
    • Before serving add some amount of Garam Masala, prepared fried onion and chopped coriander on top of your dal.

Serving Suggestion:

To serve use naan, jeera rice or parathas. It’s a most demanding dish in thalis during festival and family feasts.
